Definition of Human Being-42h Inverting the Pyramid

Inverting the pyramid

After the first world war and its horrifying 22,000,000 casualties, in an attempt to ensure that it would prove to be 'the war to end all wars, the League of Nations was formed, but it failed to resolve international differences and was eventually abandoned. National governments were not yet ready to surrender a part of their sovereignty in this way.

United Nations

After the second world war, and its yet more horrifying 40,000,000 casualties, the United Nations Organisation was formed, its first meeting shown here, hopefully to learn by the mistakes of the League of Nations. This first meeting took place in a more enlightened and determined world, and its member states were generally more prepared to sacrifice a measure of their independence.

In that it provided a means of nations discussing differences the UN was a step in the right direction. There was a prospect that nations would turn to the UN rather than resort to war. But from the viewpoint that human affairs should be entrusted to supraconscious individual responsibility, it could be said to have removed us further from that goal. Individuals' different interests, in a democracy, are related to the Machine and put into the hands of one, two, or more political parties. One of these parties chooses a government from its own members. Some members of this government are sent to represent their nation at the United Nations which cannot then be said to oversee world affairs in the interests of all people.

But this presents another Definition of Human Being - that the public are not capable of understanding and running their affairs but must rely upon experts. As the result human affairs, already governed in most respects by the Machine, are really international affairs, then national affairs, then political affairs, all of which pretty well determine the nature of human affairs.

Inverting the Pyramid

Human affairs as we know them are actually Machine affairs, modified by international relationships, further modified by internal national affairs and further modified by politics whose significance to real human interests is then extremely tenuous.

I have already offered several definitions of human being and don't wish to over-complicate the issue. But there is this suggestion - that opposite the UN we set up United Individuals, a popular forum for wide discussion which would advise or instruct the international structure by way of politics and government until such time as humantruth is established and the controlling institutions become obsolete.

The objective of United Individuals would be this - that the principles and practices of human life would no longer be a matter of pursuing the instinctive Machine drives in all directions to form gigantic structures which are alien to most of us. Instead, it would be a matter of indulging our natural wish for contented, cooperative community, and of fulfilling our intellectual potential in numerous happy and harmless abstract intellectual ways.
