Br1 The Nature and State of the Human Race

Universal View

Life, anywhere, is the organised expression of energy under impulsion materially to progress until it reaches its zenith. On reaching that point no life-form need make further bodily progress. Physically, there is nowhere else meaningful for it to go, because its prime objective, the foundation of a thinking mind, has been achieved.

Life, as the organised expression of energy, is secured by instinct, and its progress is engineered by mutation and natural selection, facilitated by the developing brain. The eventual destination of the developing brain is intellect whose function (its only feasible function) is moral truth, this being the ultimate objective.

Whether an intellectual species fulfils its true destiny depends upon whether its members grasp the significance of their existence, break with redundant instincts and accept responsibility to live according to intellectual true moral awareness.

The Prime Error of Human History

The human species results from a brain-mutation, a potential break-through to intellect in the form of an independent extension to the conscious mind which I call the postconscious. In order to fulfil this potential, the human individual should have submitted its conscious self to the postconscious - i.e. should have become supraconscious. We would then have realised our responsibility to reject the motivations of instinct and to be guided by truth.

Humanity failed to accept its intellectual responsibility and thus to fulfil its potential. Instead, it continued to develop its conscious mental capacity in pursuit of the instinctive drives, deliberately neglecting the postconscious and choosing when to admit and when to ignore the postconscious's subdued but persistent moral prompting - the still small voice of conscience.

The Present Situation

As a result we have a consumer society whose misused intellect recklessly applies its conscious intelligence to the competitive instincts, thereby producing ever more successful winners but also more miserable losers, and much more needless and cruel bloodshed, than anywhere in nature.

This is a society that is intellectually blind; that follows wherever its instinctive emotion leads, applying its lesser conscious intelligence to blazing a reckless technological trail which cannot be justified, condoned, or even explained by free and independent intellect. Consequently, society has developed a confusing range of self-destructive human behaviour. Its attempted control of the situation, government and politics, is in a perpetual state of disagreement.

The evolved instinctive system of COMPETITIVE MONEY-ECONOMICS is itself a basic controller of human society, beyond our ability to understand and control (because it is not fundamentally intelligent), inappropriate to our well-being, impossible to harness to worldwide human need. It is vital that we free ourselves from the tyranny of the amoral money-system, but the fact has to be faced that the most effective means of so-doing are presently in its control - the media, power-politics, publishing, advertising.

Instinct Dominates Reality, which Contains and Stifles Intellect

I call the existing framework of society - the system, the concepts, principles and practices by which we live - the Machine. The foundation on which THE MACHINE rests is the competitive money economy. The Machine permeates every inch of the fabric of our society, directly controlling or indirectly influencing its every element, from the largest institutions to the isolated individual.

The interests of the Machine are quite different from the true interests of humanity. Machine interests dominate human activities and affairs. The mediums of communication are commercially-based commentators on the world scene giving Machine-man's view rather than man's view of the Machine; they reveal all the many fantastic facets of that which factually exists rather than search for absolute truth. True inner human interests are hinted at but not clearly identified by the media, being confused with the machinations of existing reality; with actual Machine-orientated thought and activity.

Politics is supposed to voice and protect the interests of the people but is dominated by the Machine just as they are. For this reason politics is in a permanent state of conflict, for instance between right and left, and is capable only of compromise. In UK this is represented by the permanently opposed seating arrangements in our parliament. The object is not as it reasonably should be - to reach permanent agreement - but to remain in a state of perpetual conflict, which is the best that can be achieved in a competitive/instinctive situation where the interests of authority and those of the individual do not correspond.

The Position of the Media

The truth about our world society, as outlined above, vitally needs to be explored and brought to the attention of humanity, but isn't. Why?

One reason is that the media too are directly controlled, or indirectly influenced, by the Machine. Some are owned by moguls, or dominated by dictators, who direct editorial policy according to their own preferences. Other media may be free of such control but indirectly influenced by their readers on whom they depend to buy their product. Consequently they use language which will be readily understood by readers who are publicly influenced by Machine affairs (however critical they may be in private), also influenced by leisure activities, art, sports etc., and the conviction that the 'here and now' is inescapable.

The media, and the public, are positioned between the all-pervading, crushing pressure of existing Machine-reality and their dependence upon it, and a deep, remote and vague understanding of and hankering after true human reality - between street-wise acceptance that 'this is how it is', and underlying awareness that this is not how it should be.

The Nature of the Postconscious

The postconscious has enormous capacity sufficient for the achievement of its function, the discovery of whole truth, as far as we are able to discover it. ie humantruth which embodies true human goodness. The conscious mind, commonly used by humans, is not capable of this discovery but does enable us to manipulate our thinking in such a way as to arrive at many different and uncomfortably co-existing areas of 'relative truth'. This is the source of our present confusion and conflict.

Truth is discovered by the postconscious making the optimum number of correlations, i.e. by its reasoning to the absolute ultimate. Simply that. Humantruth is optimum correlation of all knowing available to us on planet Earth, recognising that not all fact is yet available to us but also recognising that humantruth shall apply to any other species of life in the universe and that it shall not be seriously affected by optimum scientific discovery. Any postconscious mind can achieve optimum correlation but evidently few do. Humantruth exists. It is there to be discovered by anyone. It is deeply hidden from us at present and hard to discover, being buried under the great bulk of existing false reality, and does not confer special status on the person who discovers it. And once that truth has been discovered and passed on by one person it shall appeal to the mind of any other person who may not have discovered it, yet, but who is self-freed from the conventions and seriously opened to truth.

The 'Spiritual' Dimension

At present there is a very strong leaning away from the misplaced but common idea of intellect - which identifies it with science, politics, commerce etc. - and towards things of the 'spirit' or heart. 'Spirituality' is not easy to define, but might loosely be described as 'universal consciousness', associated with a state of meditation; identified with peace, tranquillity, fearlessness, love of self, of others, and of all life. 'Spirituality' is also often associated with the concept of after-life - with reincarnation which is, to my mind, a mythical substitute for unpalatable truth.

Our search for 'spirituality' is an attempt to establish the ideal within the confines of our own conscious minds despite the fact that our external reality, and our activity obedient to that reality, is far from ideal. It is an impatient attempt to experience a kind of personal human perfection before its time, by-passing the daunting prospect of changing the world for the better, because of disbelief that the ideal can ever become the common worldwide reality. I have already stated 'You can't be moral in an amoral framework of life.'The true ideal insists on rejection of the present amoral norm and its replacement with a society which follows humantrue precepts. It doesn't follow that any personal or group state which departs from the existing norm is necessarily ideal, of course. And if the whole world were in an ideal state (surely not an impossibility,) it would naturally follow that all humans were then in a common state of peace, tranquillity, fearlessness and love.

A further Branch article has been added Feb/March 2001, entitled "The Holographic dimension". This is a simple but fundamentally reasoned explanation of individual/universal life which embraces the presently separated (though increasingly less so) scientific and spiritualist approaches.

The Ideal Situation The intelligent alternative is to have a social community living truly in accordance with its morally-aware intellect, not only solving the relatively simple matter of survival but also providing equality and the happiness that is to be derived from true fulfilment.

PROPOSAL

I propose a periodical website posting devoted to this viewpoint, unswervingly presenting a truly moral outlook representative of our underlying humanity, an outlook fundamentally different from that of the general media which presently represents the Machine. Not critical of individuals but highly critical of the Machine and related institutions that dominate and motivate individuals contrary to their high intelligence.

The basic message to be got from present reality, and from the media's reflection of that reality, is that however much it is criticised, or ridiculed, or regretted and deplored, it is inescapably real and that, ultimately, it is for us to bite that bullet. This is the message that colours the attitude of the institutions of the Machine and the opinions of the people who broadly conform to the Machine.

The divisions of present reality are represented in the media by numerous magazines each with a particular interest. Newspapers are most suited to the carrying of an overall message in that they cover a wide field, but they too are divided into sections covering separated interests, failing to engage in cross-reasoning which would relate all to one common truth.

My proposed series of Internet postings is concerned with just that cross-reasoning, achieved by a postconscious mind which has covered the essence of just about everything and correlated to the optimum, independently of the omnipresence of the Machine and of the would-be overwhelming influence of existing reality in our present world. The website pages would aim to try and tip the balance of belief away from amorality, despite contrary Machine-power, towards true morality, aided by the general human awareness, however vague, of humantruth.

As the author of these proposed postings, (now made real) I try to be as independent of the Machine as it's possible to be; I have no specialised learning or interests, belong to no religion or political organisation, insist on no allegiance to any culture or nation. Apart from very basic learning, I have been educated entirely by dialogue with my own postconscious mind but have no expectation, especially in view of a literary style dictated by the head rather than the heart, of imposing my many convictions on anybody, only to trigger, encourage and spread awareness of the desirability and possibility of peoples' own true self-enlightenment.

It is regarded as arrogant for any individual to cut clean across the cherished beliefs and carefully-formed opinions of all others. Such a person is generally discredited on the grounds that all those others can't be wrong; that he is out of step, not they, the great majority. It is a remarkable thing that the fact of so many differences of faith, belief and opinion existing is taken to indicate not that all, or all but one are wrong, but that truth is variable or inaccessible. As a consequence, if the truth were to be stated it would not be accepted. At worst it would be ignored; refused publication; and at best it would be placed alongside all those other limited 'truths'. Each of these 'truths' has its own group of adherents, but none is accepted as overall truth because of the contrary existence of all the others. Humantruth shall prevail only when more and more people open to it to the point where the great majority persist in expressing it.

Essential to the effectiveness of this proposal is the free hand which the Internet gives to me and others, so that we may put forth exactly what our postconscious minds dictate, without fear or favour. For my part, if I have interpreted it correctly, as I believe, the words I put out shall be the unadulterated reasoning of an independent postconscious mind, and therefore necessarily and essentially true. It is necessary to recognise that the postconscious is the supreme faculty of every human being and that it is the fountain head of humantruth - truth never before brought within range of comprehension to be wholly grasped. It is obvious that the truth about humanity and its world is potentially of vital interest to every single individual. But it is not of interest to the Machine. Human truth is nonsense according to Machine-reality. From that hard-headed commercial viewpoint my proposed internet postings are unlikely to cut any ice, initially, with most of the media, especially newspapers, but surely they deserve a place if only in philosophical journals or any publication supposedly concerned with righting the wrongs of human life. This comprehensive view, which might be called a New Philosophy, may attract outrage, scorn and controversy, especially from the establishment and academia, but it must be pointed out, constantly, that such reactions expectedly arise from an existing reality which is itself an outrageous insanity.
