I have tried to present to you a brief essential history of humanity which demonstrates that we are in the wrong reality. This truth is hard to discover, but once perceived it gives a new awareness of the world. However, throughout my thinking life, faced with constant pressure to conform to the norm, I have been assailed with doubts. Could almost everybody else be right, and had I, after all, got it wrong? In due course the full force of reason would re-assert itself and reinforce my conviction that I had not got it wrong. You may be troubled by similar doubts, based on the thought that the vast majority can't be wrong and reinforced by the feeling that you do not really want to be convinced otherwise, so as to be marked out as eccentric.
If it were the case that the Machine is indomitable and that the circumstances of human life were always to remain as they presently are, then it could be said to be beneficial that our minds are conditioned and our thinking restricted. The less that people think about the rights and wrongs of it all - the more they concentrate on their own automatic interests - the better they are enabled to endure, and survive. With so much to recognise that goes contrary to reason and compassion, so much to remember that is unpleasantly disturbing, so much to fear in a world of many terrible possibilities, the open mind can seem to be a curse. The most humantruly wise person will be the least prepared for coping with the world as it is.
If you achieve the state of total awareness which realises humantruth you must also suffer in this way, but only as long as you are in a minority. When the majority are with you it shall be another matter. Unless you lead the way by opening your mind, however, there can never be a humantrue majority. And in the meantime, true awareness carries the hope of beneficial worldwide change, whereas the existing automated human race, conditioned though it is, still suffers, or is made miserable by the knowledge of worldwide suffering about which it can do nothing.
Some may consider themselves to be familiar enough with human nature to know that the humantrue ideal couldn't work. This is to judge with conditioned mind and unopened eyes a whole race of people of similarly limited awareness. You may be satisfied with life as it is, subject to certain reservations such as that war and deprivation should be abolished. This is to believe that we can dictate policy to the Machine when, on all major matters, it dictates to us. The Machine does not work for human good, but just because the vast majority accept its principles and automatically follow where it leads does not mean they are incapable of supporting and sustaining the humantrue ideal. And it is foolish to imagine that the Machine can ever be so controlled by us as to keep only those of its parts we like or can tolerate, and cut out those parts we abhor.
Change to a humantrue society shall be achieved by a humanity changed by the new awareness of supraconsciousness. Until we have all reached that intellectual potential we cannot say whether we are satisfied with reality, or necessarily resigned to it, or judge whether marginal changes can be made which shall satisfy us. Once we achieved that potential we could not possibly tolerate existing reality and would be well aware that once the ideal were attained its maintenance would be a common human responsibility which we could not fail to uphold. Intellect is the fountain of true morality, and it is our true nature to fulfil both. Such fulfilment gives us knowledge of what we can humantruly do before actually doing it, and assures us that we shall faithfully sustain it because to do otherwise shall then be unthinkable to us.
Remember, your construction of mind and character was probably made to fit a personal reality that was carved out of a world reality which is false to your humanity. If you still find that hard to accept, think of this. Here we are, an intelligence on a tiny planet in space, supposedly getting close to knowing precisely how we came to be, even to within 100th of a second of the Big Bang, yet so ignorant and primitive that we give the conduct of our world to principles other than our own, so that we are virtually in a state of perpetual armed conflict, in fear of one another, and in awe of that which controls us.
It is not a question of whether or not you agree with me, but a question of truth. Is all this that my mind has told me true? As far as it goes I am convinced that it is, however mighty the opposition to it may be, for, to quote the sixth meaning of truth given in the previous chapter, these are the conclusions towards which all strands of my utmost reason, which I believe to be pure reason, unerringly tend. If we resist the truth, it is not the real us which does so. If we do not accept but wilfully deny it we shall fail as an intellectual species. There can be no half-measures. This book is not intended to be read, put away and forgotten by unchanged minds. It is intended to mark a turning-point in human awareness, the beginning of a new supraconscious era. It is not that I am suffering from delusions of grandeur, only a conviction of humantruth, the realisation of which should not be delayed. We can not afford to wait in the hope that solutions to our problems will turn up - we have to begin making change happen now.
If we accept the concept of a humantrue reality and reach for supraconsciousness, we shall have begun already to remove our conditioning, to change our character and look at everything in a new light. We shall have started to put into practice the belief that our truth must be reflected in our society. We should resist being persuaded, by the great contrary weight of existing reality, into thinking this impossible. We should no longer allow that anything guides us which we do not know to be absolutely right, and should never again allow ourselves to think according to the present norm.
The next step towards creating a humantrue reality is to reveal what is wrong with this one, which our new awareness enables us to do.
