Animals are controlled involuntarily by instinct, for their own good. Humans need to control their affairs voluntarily, by the reasoning of intellect. We are presently in between the two states; neither one nor the other; out of control. We are dictated to by the automaton as animals are directed by instinct, but our free intellects protest against much that results. This is the chief potential of intellect that we have failed to achieve - the potential, by fulfilling this our greatest feature, to govern ourselves as befits us. It is the reasoning of intellect that gives us true human morality - humantruth - which, being the product of our supreme faculty, should be our governing guide.
Another potential of the human mind is our contentment and satisfaction. The behaviour of matter is pre-ordained by the characteristics of energy. The ordered behaviour of atoms and molecules is a sort of contentment, given zest by the semi-random behaviour of sub-atomic particles. The alternative, from matter's viewpoint, is unhappy disorder. Similarly, the contentment and satisfaction of animals lies in the fulfilment, by instinct and in every respect, of the definite functions for which they have been fitted by evolution. This is given zest by such as birds singing or lambs gambolling, by curiosity, and by the ever-present possibility of progressive change. In our case the fulfilment of intellect would bring satisfaction derived from social activities designed for human contentment by humans, with the added zest of its abstract expression, in music, pictorial art, literature for instance, which might become the greater part of that contentment and satisfaction. The alternative is extinction.
We have seen how human minds are imprisoned in the Machine by conditioning. Such conditioning has to be removed if we are to fulfil our potential. The catch is that we have to achieve the reasoning potential of intellect, truth, in order to remove our conditioning. This is done by realising that it is our outer shell which is conditioned and that our inner core is the true self in embryo. It is by the independent intellectual development of the inner self that it shall grow to discredit, defeat and take over from our conditioned outer shell.
